While I'm somewhat confused on how I want to proceed with my photographs, I've been pleased with my sales on ebay. In the past I'd get frustrated if I had a lull in sales and just stop selling on ebay. Now I'm sticking with it and it seems to be paying off. My goal is to make my ebay sales at least a good part time income. I'll be doing art shows next summer also. Ultimately, selling my photos has got to become my only source of income.
Why am I confused about my photos? I'm pretty sure I want to start shooting large format for my north shore photos. I'm just not sure which format. 4x5 would be fine, I just need another enlarger. I've been thinking about 5x7 and doing contact prints and looking for a 5x7 enlarger (much harder to come by then 4x5). I want to be able to make big prints for artshows next summer. That is why I'm pondering 5x7. I've ruled out 8x10 because it will take me forever to save up the money to buy one.
With 4x5 I could get a new one for a decent price. A new view camera would be so nice. I've always bought used cameras and some have really sucked, it was such a struggle just getting a decent picture. I know this was the cause of me giving up large format.
I'm also not sure how I feel about the Holga camera now. I haven't been happy with any of my new Holga pictures. Maybe when I get a view camera I'll just shoot what I would with the Holga with the view camera and see how that works. I've thought about pinhole large format, or of getting old crappy barrel lenses that take screwy pictures (I think Sally Mann has done that). I don't know, but I do like images with some wrong with them.
I can get really freaked out about all this. I'll start spending way too much time on photo.net or apug.org (analog photo users group) trying to glean some nugget that will give me the answer I'm seeking. I thought I was happy with medium format, but the idea of printing real big has been festering in my brain and it won't go away.
In the mean time I've got film to develop. So that will keep me busy while I accumulate some $$ so I can leap back into large format.
