Civil Rights Battles in Black and White
In the NY Times there is a great photo essay of images entitled: Civil Rights Battles in Black and White. They have been locked up until now. Very powerful stuff!

How Not to Get Killed
Here's an interesting Q & A with one of my favorite photographers, Teru Kuwayama - How to Shoot (and Not Get Shot) In a War Zone.
What's up with Spring
I was just looking at the archive of old posts and realized that every time I have decided to start back doing photography has been this time of year. This year, last year and in 2007. This year might not count because I have been toying with it for a couple of months.
A Tentative Plan
Drove out in the hill country this weekend, to Burnet and Fredricksburg. Did some hiking near Inks Lake. That's where the above photo was taken.
So I have decided to continue photography again. I have started and stopped a couple of times but I won't this time. My plan is to work on this site and get my existing prints up for sale over the next week. Then get a printer and start selling my images that I have scans of and if there is a popular photo that I don't have a scan of I will get it scanned so I can print it. Finally, I'll get a camera... I'm looking at a Canon G11. One thing I really wish I could see is what a print from a printer looks like from this camera. I would love to know how a traditional print from a medium format camera stacks up agains the G11 / printer combo.
And yes, I'm switching to digital. I've spent a lot of time thinking about it and decided this will be the best for me. I may get a scanner sometime down the road to scan medium format film so I can shoot with a Holga or a medium format pinhole. But I can always get film scanned as long as a can find a good person to do it -- we'll see.
For now I'll be posting old photos or pictures I take with my 5 megapixel Canon A530.

Switching To Wordpress
Oh and I just saw that blogger, which this is hosted on, won't allow FTP uploads in a couple of months, so I will switch this to Wordpress, which I used for other blogs and I like much better. The problem with switching is the photos don't migrate very well. I tried it once before and it was such a pain in the ass that I decided not to switch. Well, now I have to do it.
Selling Pictures
I'm going to start selling select prints in the near future. And I got my old domain name back - robbiebecklund.com, which I had let lapse a few years ago and since I had been getting decent traffic a company bought the domain and would only sell it back to me for $1,000. I guess I won because I held out longest. Soon I'll have it redirected to this site so links to the old site will work again.

I Guess I Won't Go to Hell...
I've pretty much decided to get a Canon G11. I could get a new, reasonable priced camera, or buy darkroom equipment, but I think I'm going to go with getting a digital camera. While the G11 isn't a high end model, it seems good enough for me and at a price I can stomach. I may very well change my mind tonight.
My reasoning is because I want to start taking pictures and getting results. I could buy a film camera like a Holga or a Pinhole, but I have to get a darkroom together first. While a nice digital camera is not going to get me interesting images like the Holga, I have done quite a bit of shooting with medium format cameras and do like that kind of shooting.
The real fun thing (assuming I get it) is I'll be able to start posting new images on here - Yeah!!
