Yesterday I received in the mail the B&H Photo 35mm SLR Photo Sourcebook. It's 686 pages of photo fun. It's the best junk mail in the world. It has the whole line of Bessa R Voigtlander cameras and lenses. While I'll keep shooting with the Holga, I feel like a need a nice dependable rangefinder with a wide angle lens to carry with me and see what kind of pictures I can get with it--The Bessa R or R2A seems to make sense. I was talking to a friend and he mentioned he had gotten a Voigtlander in the 60s and it was probably in a box somewhere and maybe I could have it/buy it--hmmm, wonder what it is or if it works etc etc.

Yesterday had a sale from my ebay store. Got an order for a triptych with my Cattail photos, working on that now. I was about to print last night and the power went out for 4 hours--nope no printing done. Have a couple other orders and things in the works so I'm feeling good, kind of like there's some momentum to keep moving forward.

ILFORD Worldwide Mono Product Availability List -- 14 pages of all the black and white Ilford products. There are a few things that say "whilst supplies last", which I guess means they are discontinueing some obscure things. There is also a cross walk between the discontinued Kodak B&W paper and Ilford paper.
Here's a good article on Split Filter Printing with variable contrast or multigrade papers. I've got a few prints I have to split filter print. It's fairly easy to do and can come in real handy at times.

Rocks Water Snow, Duluth, MN - 2005
The above pictures were taken in April when there was still quite a bit of snow and ice around Duluth.

Although I haven't gotten any new work to show, I have listed my photos on eBay. New photos on the way soon--I promise!

The Spurs won and are the champeens of the world (and it's true for them considering they have players from France, Argentina, and Serbia and/or Croatia and maybe other places I'm clueless about). I think more than any other sports team I follow I love the Spurs the most.

This is an interesting site - PrintedMatter.org, they are dedicated to the promotion of printed publications by artists. They have a store in NYC and have been around since the 70's.

I've not been too productive on the photo front. I'm too busy working! Until the end of October I'll be selling my brother's coffee at the Minneapolis Farmers' Market Annex on Saturdays and Sundays. I gotta be at work at about 6:15 am each of those mornings! Now my Friday and Saturday night printing sessions are a thing of the past for awhile. But I'll keep at it and I should have some new work posted in the next couple of days.

I would also like to report, with great relief, that the San Antonio Spurs have just won game 5 and are going to San Antonio for the last 2 games of the series with a 3-2 game lead. GO SPURS GO!!!!

The Spurs just won game 2 of the NBA Finals by 21 points over the Detroit Pistons. The Spurs led the whole game. Game 1 they won by 15 points. They played so well tonight--it was a very beautiful thing to watch and enjoy.

Snow Ice Rocks - Duluth, MN - 2005

Snow Rocks Water - Duluth, MN - 2005
Both of these were from April along Lake Superior with the Holga.

It took me 4 tries to optimize the above image for the web using Photoshop. This has happened a few times. Is as if there is some hidden something in the file that freezes up the program. I've done this little optimizing procedure hundreds of times, but once in awhile it just doesn't work. Usually I just change the name of the file and it works. And yes I've already tried it restarting the computer multiple times. Computers are so mediocre.

Bike Messengers Take the Street to the Track - a cool article about NYC bike messengers competing in track races. I messengered in Chicago for about a year--I loved it--until I crashed badly--ending my messengering career.

No new pictures yet. It's funny how little things can keep you out of the darkroom. At least the darkroom is pretty much set back up. I was sure I'd do some printing tonight, but than a glorious realization struck. My favorite TV show will be on tonight--I get to see it every couple of years--The San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals!! Maybe I can do some printing during half time or during the commercials or if the game don't go too long, after it's over.
It's very frustrating living outside of central Texas while the Spurs are playing so well. I was living in Austin when they Won in 1999 and I did go to the parade at the Riverwalk that year--what a blast. I sure wish I could tottle over to Academy or Sportmart and check out the Spurs paraphernalia and at least get a new Spurs hat and maybe some of those goofy flags you hook on to your car windows.
Go Spurs Go!!!!
Maybe... new pictures tomorrow...

The old-fashioned photograph communicates a rich sense of meaning that the digital file does not. David Burnett, photojournalist, uses a 4x5 Graflex and a Holga to get some of his images.

Here's a useful article aboutcaring for framed artwork.
Abstract Art by Richard Serra -- pretty cool stuff-- and big!

I souped some film last night (One reason not to switch to digital--you don't get to use that phrase). Some holga pictures from Lake Superior taken in April when there was a lot of snow and ice up there still. I may just have some new pics to post tomorrow!

'Lords of Dogtown' - when I was in junior high I had pictures of these guys plastered all over my bedroom, I lived for the next issue of 'Skateboarder' magazine. There's a documentary on the Z Boys called 'Dogtown and Z Boys' with cool old footage and interviews with the real skaters as middle aged men. This was done in 2002.
"Friedlander" opens this Sunday at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC--a retrospective including 500 of his photos.
I really like Lee Friedlander's pictures, but I got to admit some of them don't do much for me. But I think part of it is that I can't figure them out, which is pretty cool actually. That's what makes his work so intriguing--it's not easy--it can make you think, which sometimes is a bit annoying.
